South Pole Lake Survey
| The 2018/19 field season was intended to be the first of two site selection seasons for the Hercules Dome Ice Core. We were scheduled to deploy via LC-130 from South Pole Station, but the sastrugi found during SLACO prevented landing at our target site. We pivoted to a local survey of the South Pole lake, which we used to understanding the thermal structure of the ice around South Pole Station and the radio-frequency attenuation (relevant to the ICECUBE nutrino detector. |
